If you’ve never had a drink from The Doctor’s Office, you are missing out! No silly, it’s not an actual doctors office but a craft cocktail bar here in Holmes Beach that’s called the “Doctor’s Office”. This place is seriously awesome! And the cocktails are amazing!
Actually for more than 50 years, this space was the Island Doctors’ office. Now though you wont find a medical doctor on duty, just some fantastic local bartenders. A few of my favorite cocktails from here are The Bee’s Knees, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and The Nightingale.
Along with drinks, The Doctor’s Office also features some small plated food options. There’s artisanal cheeses, charcuterie, maple bacon, and the BEST Chocolate Budino (pudding) that’s topped with sea salt. It’s delectable.
The Doctor’s Office is open everyday of the week, from 5PM – 11:45PM. If you plan on closing the bar down… make sure you pick a great place to stay. Island Real Estate Vacations has some great locations within walking distance. You can’t wrong with Blue Lagoon 4 or Harrington Bungalow 5 which are perfect for a family and friends trip.

Holmes Beach – Duffy’s Tavern is an Anna Maria Island landmark and has been since it first opened in 1958. Family owned and operated, “Miss Duffy” and her 5 daughters proudly serve their “world famous burgers and the coldest beer this side of heaven” from a two-story cracker shack located across the street from the Manatee Public Beach on Anna Maria Island, Florida. In March of 2003, Duffy’s relocated across the street from the Holmes Beach City Hall and skate park. Now with air conditioning and a fireplace, it is a great place to hang out where you are never too hot or cold and can mingle with the locals. You can still expect the same service and quality in both the beers and the burgers. Everything comes with chips, never fries.
Duffy’s has fabulous cheeseburgers and try one with everything on it. There is a bar as well as spots to sit down. They have an outdoor eating area under roof as well as one out the back which is not under roof. The regular dining area can be opened up with garage door size screens to let the breeze in on balmy breeze days. On cold days they get the fireplace roaring and it offers a nice cozy eating spot. Walk up to the bar and put in your order and Duffy’s will bring the food out when ready. Plenty of cold beverages at Duffy’s, beer, soda all with Televisions behind the bar to watch your favorite sports team.
Duffy’s hours as of this posting:
Monday – Saturday: 11am – 8pm
Closed on Tuesday
Sunday: 12pm – 8pm
No credit cards, CASH only!

Looking at it from the outside nothing seems all that special about In Cahoots. It’s not a stand-alone bar in a distinct building, but one of about a dozen tenants in Pebble Springs Plaza on Manatee Avenue West (State Road 64) just about six miles from Anna Maria Island. Its bright red sign glows enticingly at night, but from the parking lot on a recent Saturday evening all appeared quiet. Inside it was a different story with two games of pool and a stage where the karaoke was well underway!
Applebee’s welcomes you to the neighborhood and is a great family restaurant with an added bonus of late night fun where you can be a star. They have paired karaoke nights with their awesome service and affordable delicious food. The karaoke is family friendly, but usually attracts a more adult crowd since it starts at 10PM. Slim’s Place for Burgers and more!
Slims place serves plenty of COLD drink choices and serves a variety of menu items. The pub has plenty of televisions to watch your favorite sporting event or world cup soccer game. Enjoy a huge copper top bar for an impromptu cold beverage of your favorite choice. There is limited outdoor seating at picnic tables. Slim’s has a great atmosphere that throws off a strong local vibe of positive “stuff.” It’s not uncommon to go into Slim’s alone and walk out with several new found friends from sitting at the bar talking about the latest in Anna Maria City or just sharing good conversation with a friendly face.
Slim’s place has several choices of dinners like hamburger, fish and salad. They have a home made hummus that is fabulous. When the soup of the day is black bean you must try it. Of course the menu does change but at last check the philly sandwich with all the fixings was one of the favorites.
If you are looking for some local flair then stop in at Slims place in Anna Maria City. They serve lunches and dinners and accept Visa and Mastercard. Be sure to check out their local specials, you won’t be sorry you visited Slim’s Place.

Holmes Beach – Looking for some good pub grub? Maybe your favorite team is playing, and you wanted to catch the game. I know a place in Holmes Beach where you can find both! While on Anna Maria Island make sure one of your stops is Hurricane Hank’s Bar & Grill. You definitely have to try the BBQ burger or the black-bean quesadilla. Those are two favorites of the agents in my office. Also on the lighter side they have some mouth watering salads. The Grilled Sesame Chicken Salad or just a Classic Caesar being the top picks. They are also family friendly with great kid’s baskets of chicken fingers, fried shrimp or fish all served with french fries.
Hurricane Hank’s offers a full service bar, and offers a package store directly next to the restaurant where you can purchase beer, wine, liquor and island souvenirs.
The atmosphere is island style with bright colors and beach memorabilia. The dress code is “come as you are” whether that be in a business suit or bathing suit. This may turn into one of your favorite island hot spots.
