Havana Cabana, Anna Maria Island's Cuban restaurant

The Havana Cabana Grill is a Cuban restaurant situated on the Marina Drive, Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island. The restaurant has a large selection of dishes available for people eating in and ordering out. The food served is a mixture between Greek, Italian and Cuban traditional dishes and there are a variety of others. There are dinner specials available and for the adventurous spirits out there the catch of the day will offer a delicious fresh meal. Be sure to ask what it is!! There is a relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant and one immediately feels at home and welcome.

On my visit to the Havana Cabana I had an authentic Cuban sandwich and my aunt had the Sopa del Dia, both of which were extremely good. I would recommend any of the sandwiches that are made with Cuban bread. There is so much to choose from and I will definitely be going back. The restaurant is owned and managed by John Droukas who is also the chef, you can be sure one of the better chefs on the island. The best way in testing the theory is by testing the food. We were served by a kind lady by the name of Michelle Ruiz del Vizo who was very knowledgeable of the state of Florida and its cultural heritage. We learnt from her the meaning behind the term ‘cracker’, used to describe people who are born in Florida. The term derived from the crack of the whip above herds of cattle that were being herded by the first Floridian residents, early pioneers of the region. She is a proud Cuban cracker.

To view what is available you can visit http://www.havanacabana.net/ which is a website containing the menu and contact details.

Now, enough reading for you and time to crack on to the Havana Cabana grill to experience the culinary delight that awaits you.

Silhouettes at Sunset ~ 11~26~2010 ~ A Time To Be Thankful On Anna Maria Island

Sunset through the Pines on Anna Maria Island
Sylvia from the UK sharing a sunset!

Thanksgiving is a time for each of us to count our blessings and living on Anna Maria Island is where it all starts for me. We have just enjoyed a Thanksgiving week with weather in the 80’s. We have topped off every day with stunning sunsets experienced with family and friends. My gratitude begins with my family and dear friends and extends to my job and the place I call home…Anna Maria Island. Anyone fortunate enough to live here will tell you how we exist in one of the most beautiful settings anywhere…living in a peaceful and healing environment. There seems to be such an ability to feel balanced when surrounded  by nature at her finest. Continue reading Silhouettes at Sunset ~ 11~26~2010 ~ A Time To Be Thankful On Anna Maria Island

Anna Maria Island Beaches Are Simply Gorgeous!

Anna Maria Island beach
Beachgoers of all ages enjoy Anna Maria Island’s clean shores

Our beaches are still clean and oil free.  The sugar white sand is soft as ever, and the wild life is extraordinary!  My children and I were running up the North End beach the other night, and got to enjoy another one of our beautiful sunsets.  There are lots of turtles’ nests getting ready to hatch at this time of the year.  We saw at least five up on the beach near the Sandbar Restaurant.  Last weekend, during an earlier morning trek to the beach, we got to enjoy the crabs crawling all over the beach.   And there is never a shortage of shore birds flitting in and out of the turquoise water.   The breezes are blowing, the water is crystal clear, and the sand is ripe for building a castle fit for a king!

Anna Maria Island Beaches are Beautiful!

Same old same old, visitors to Anna Maria Island continue to enjoy our oil free beaches.  I was just out to the beach and it was 90 degrees plus and was a perfect day.  A strong breeze coming from the North kept us cool as I built a sandcastle with my son.  Family visited recently as well and agreed, the sand on Anna Maria Island is white, soft and gorgeous.

Oil Spill Visitor update and Tropical Depression Bonnie

Last night Tropical Depression Bonnie flew by on Anna Maria Island.  Frankly it was not much an event here, we see harder rains with most normal rain storms.  While I am not sure when the peak occurred I drove home around 6:45 PM EST last night which had to be close to the peak and it was sprinkling.  I am on the bay side of Anna Maria Island and our office is more in the middle of the island and not much happened yesterday except a little rain.  Continue reading Oil Spill Visitor update and Tropical Depression Bonnie

Anna Maria Island June 27th visitor oil update

No changes on Anna Maria Island.  No oil, no tar balls, just beautiful white sandy beaches.  Yesterday Anna Maria Island saw hundreds of people hit our beaches to announce their protest against oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.   Our local newspaper constructed a story on the oil protest. June 25th Anna Maria Island – Children Interviews – No Oil!

Island Real Estate is trying to mix it up a little bit with our videos of the Anna Maria Island Beaches.   No changes to our Anna Maria Island beaches.  As of June 25th the oil is still hundreds of miles from our beaches.

We wanted to get the perspective of children regarding our white sugar sand.  Not much more to say but take a look at the video below which was shot June 21st, 2010.  Thanks to i-Jack for taking the video and the interviews.  He of course lives and “plays” full-time on beautiful Anna Maria Island.   Always trying to give a local perspective.
