Ocean Star Review. . . For Kids!!! :)

Hey kids!  You’ve made your way back to Kids Corner, the #1 island blog written by kids, for kids.  I’m here to talk about one of the best Asian food places on the island, Ocean Star.  Not only does it have awesome food, but the atmosphere is very realistic and entertaining.  Read on if you want to learn more.

Ocean Star is this great sushi and Japanese food restaurant located at the Galati Marina.  It hcontact_oceanstarlogoas the most yummiest sushi and dumplings you’ve ever tasted.  And no matter what you like there’s something on the menu to amuse everyone.

So let’s start with the food.  Honestly, I would have to say that sushi is their specialty.  My favorite has to be the Hawaiian Role-Tuna and Cream Cheese tempura with eel sauce-soooo good!  I mean, the other items I have tried on the menu were fantastic, don’t get me wrong, but I think the thing they spend more time perfecting their sushi than anything else.  But if you’re not exactly the sushi type, Ocean Star has plenty of other options for you.  They make a variety of tempura dishes (fried veggies and fish – finger food that satisfies even people like my brother).  They also serve many different types of rice, dumplings, soups, noodles, and even steak, to satisfy your hunger.  So feel free to eat up and enjoy!

Next, the atmosphere.  As soon as you walk in the door, it’s as if you’ve entered a whole different world.  In short, it’s very different than your everyday mealtime.  You can eat at a table, in a booth, at the bar, or in a canopied-in booth with strips of seating area all around the table.  To add to the realistic Japanese ambiance, the lights are dim and the chefs are constantly preparing food right in front of you, which adds to the awesome mood.

So, to conclude, Ocean Star is a fun, awesome restaurant that serves great food, has a fantabulous atmosphere, and is a great place to eat whether you have a special event or are just looking for a cool place to eat for dinner or lunch.  Well, i gotta go.  See ya l8tr. Byeeeee!!!!!!!!

Santa Clause comes to Bridge Street

Santa Clause coming to Bridge Street

It may be true that we don’t get any snow in Florida, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get into the Christmas Spirit! Santa Clause coming to Bridge Street has become an annual event in Bradenton Beach.  Anna Maria Island is full of festivities throughout the Winter Season, but one of the most fun as an Islander is the Christmas celebration at Bridge Street. Hosted yearly by the Bridge Street Merchant’s Assocation, there are plenty of activities that are fun for the whole family, whether your loved ones are 9 or 90!

The day starts off with an “open house” of Bridge Street, with all the merchants offering special prices and fun gift ideas. Afterwards, the festivites really start; this year beginning at 3:00 PM, Santa Claus is coming to town, and will be around until 7:00 PM when the Cortez Yacht Club’s lighted boat parade begins. This whole event is truly spectacular, and should not be missed!

Anna Maria Elementary Goes Back To School

back to schoolSo far it has been a wonderful summer here on Anna Maria Island and for students summer vacation is slowly coming to an end. School starts Monday August 20th and that means that traffic will increase drastically. Expect delays in Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island! It will definitely take everyone a little longer to get where they are going especially in the mornings between 8:00am – 8:30am and afternoons between 2:45pm – 3:15pm when the students are released. West Manatee Fire Rescue will be in front of Anna Maria Elementary for the first week of School to help remind the public to slow down in the school zone and keep the kids safe and secure.

If your family is gearing up for back to school shopping make sure to take full advantage of the sales tax holiday this year. The sales tax holiday will run this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday offering tax fee items such as clothing, footwear, certain accessories, and school supplies across the state of Florida.

For more information on the best ways to enjoy the rest of the summer on the beautiful beaches of Anna Maria Island. Check out our local scene and find fun outdoor activities, area restaurants, and tips like who has the best ice cream treats on the island. Have fun and stay safe!

Kid’s Korner on Anna Maria Island – Top things to do

Welcome to Kid’s Korner, the best place to stop by & see the latest happenings for us kids on Anna Maria. Hey Anna Maria Island kids, do you have any fun activities planned for this summer while visiting Anna Maria Island? If not, I’ve got plenty of exciting things for you to do. With a diverse choice of activities always going on, summer on A.M.I. – Anna Maria Island Kid’s corner is never a bore.

So, let’s start with some fun summer lessons.

Surf Camp Participant 2011
  • To begin, there is a surf camp run by Eternal Summer Surf Camp that occurs on White Avenue beach every Sunday from early July to the middle of August.  Instructors will give instructions & demonstrations on how to surf & let you surf tons yourself.
  • Also, there are sailing lessons by Bimini Bay Sailing happening right now. They offer 6-hour teaching courses by experienced sailors. You can choose your boat that best fits you, & go out into the water as they teach you the basics on sailing.  You’re sure to learn some new skills during this summer.

Next are the camps.

  • Anna Maria Island Community Center offers a youth & teen program called “Summer My Way”  that involves sports, arts & crafts, field trips, specialty camps, & much, much more. You can pick & choose your activities & join many others as you enjoy your summer, your way. Find out about the specialty camps, or choose a camp. You could choose one week or every week, just a specialty camp, or just the field trips.
  • Also, Crosspointe Fellowship Baptist Church runs a Vacation Bible School for K-5th graders for one week in the summer, July 16th-20th from 9 a.m. to noon. They plan to go on many adventures & uncover mysteries. Find out more at at www.CrosspointeFellowship.com. Your summer is sure to be a blast no matter which way you toss the dice.

Looking for something fun to play with?  Here on Anna Maria Island, we have equipment rental shops. These rental stores have a great variety of merchandise – you can rent anything from golf carts to sail boats & everything in between.

  • For example, at Beach Bums on Pine Avenue, you can rent different types of bikes & boards, kayaks, golf carts, & more. My family & I have rented a golf cart previously, & they’re pretty cool. On Anna Maria Island, they let you drive your golf cart on the street, so it’s pretty awesome.  (Not on all streets.  Be sure to Contact Island Real Estate for more information)  But because they allow you to ride them on the street, your parents will be the ones doing the driving, while us kids get to ride in style. These golf carts vary in size, color, & designs, & you could have one for just 2 people, or one for you & your entire family. They offer the free use of helmets & life jackets with rental. Their bike types include regular two-wheelers, quad-bikes, cruisers, tricycles, tandems, electric & surrey bikes, along with bike seats for babies & toddlers. They have nature hikes & other kids activities you’re sure to love, as well.
  • What’s more, Bimini Bay Sailing offers rental sailboats for a small fee. You can choose your sailboat & how long you wish to rent it. They  offer Sunfish, Lasers, Zumi, & everything in between. They go from an hour to a month, & delivery is optional. More facts can be found on the same site as their sailing lessons. These rentals are a unique way to get around the island.  Need a vacation rental that accommodates a sailboat?  No problem, Island Real Estate has many boat friendly vacation rentals to choose from.

So no matter what you do or when you do it,  at Anna Maria Island Kid’s corner it’s certain you’ll have a great summer here on Anna Maria Island.

Holmes Beach Holiday Parade & Christmas Tree Lighting

Friday we kicked off the first of the December Holiday events here on Anna Maria Island.  It all started with the Holmes Beach Parade and the lighting of the Christmas tree at the Holmes Beach Chamber of Commerce.  The parade was chock full of characters, we saw pirates, reindeer, and even Santa showed up for the Holiday fun.  The Holmes Beach Chamber of Commerce lit their beautifully decorated Christmas tree just before the parade ended.

After the tree was lit, Santa showed up across the street in the Holmes Beach Plaza where the Holmes Beach merchants hosted an open house.  Soon after Santa Claus arrived it stated snowing, (fake snow that is) but it was really cool and everyone was in the Holiday Spirit.  As the snow fell and the music played the children got a chance to meet Santa Claus and give him this year’s wish list, we all had a great time.

Just remember in your quest for entertainment or the next Holiday event, check in with one of our Anna Maria Island vacation rental specialists and make sure that you get the most out of your Anna Maria Island Vacation. We have a list of Holiday events still to come and beach house rentals all over Anna Maria Island.  Contact Island Real Estate today 877-778-6066 and book your island getaway!

Chuck E Cheeses is short drive from Anna Maria

Chuck E Cheese Bradenton,FL
Chuck E Cheese Bradenton,FL

One of the great things to do that is close to Anna Maria island and the beaches on a rainy day is to go to Chuck E Cheeses.  The kids absolutely love it!  I like it because it is safe.  The moment you walk in there is always someone there to greet you and make sure everyone in your party gets a hand stamp.  The stamp correlates for the entire party so no adult can leave with a child that does not match their stamp.

The menu is fair for kids.  The pizza is OK, not the best I have ever had but they also have a salad bar and appetizers.  Drink selections are water, soda and beer.  Don’t forget that they have birthday parties here as well.

The games are fun for children from the age of toddlers all the way up to adult age children at heart.  My son loves the shooting games and the boccie ball.

The nearest location is a short fifteen minute drive away, the address is below, Have fun!
