Anna Maria Island Trash & Recycling Guide: Pickup Schedules for All Three Island Cities
When you’re vacationing on Anna Maria Island, figuring out when the trash gets picked up probably isn’t at the top of your vacation itinerary. But once the trash can starts filling up, knowing the correct pickup day suddenly becomes pretty important!
Anna Maria Island is made up of three separate cities — Anna Maria, Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach — and trash and recycling schedules vary depending on where you're staying.
To make things easy, we've put together a quick guide to residential trash and recycling pickup throughout the island.
City of Anna Maria Trash & Recycling Schedule
Staying on the north end of the island in the City of Anna Maria?
The regular residential collection schedule is:
-
Trash: Monday and Thursday
-
Recycling: Thursday
The City of Anna Maria began its current Monday and Thursday waste collection schedule in June 2026.
Guests should follow the instructions provided at their individual vacation rental regarding trash and recycling containers. The location and handling of containers may vary by property.
Holmes Beach Trash & Recycling Schedule
If your vacation rental is located in Holmes Beach, in the center of Anna Maria Island, the regular residential collection schedule is:
-
Trash: Monday and Friday
-
Recycling: Tuesday
Waste Pro asks that household garbage and recycling be ready for collection by 7:00 a.m.
As always, follow the instructions provided for your particular vacation rental regarding where trash and recycling should be placed.
Bradenton Beach Trash & Recycling Schedule
Staying on the south end of Anna Maria Island in Bradenton Beach?
The regular residential schedule is:
-
Trash: Monday and Thursday
-
Recycling: Thursday
Waste Pro provides residential sanitation service throughout the City of Bradenton Beach.
What Can You Recycle on Anna Maria Island?
Recycling correctly is just as important as remembering collection day.
Common household recyclables include items such as:
-
Clean paper and flattened cardboard
-
Metal food and beverage cans
-
Glass bottles and jars
-
Accepted plastic bottles and containers
Recyclables should be empty and clean before going into the recycling container. Avoid placing plastic bags or other questionable items in the recycling bin.
If you're unsure whether something can be recycled, check the information provided at your vacation rental or current local recycling guidelines before tossing it in.
What If My Vacation Rental Handles Trash Differently?
Not every property on Anna Maria Island handles trash and recycling exactly the same way.
Condominium communities, multi-family properties and some vacation homes may have dumpsters, designated collection areas or other property-specific procedures.
Always follow the instructions provided for your individual vacation rental first. Those directions take priority over general residential collection information.
If you're staying with Island Real Estate Vacations and aren't sure what to do with your trash or recycling, contact our team and we'll be happy to point you in the right direction.
What About Holiday Trash Pickup?
Trash and recycling schedules can change during holiday weeks.
If a holiday falls during your stay, don't automatically assume your normal collection day will remain the same. Local municipalities and waste providers may adjust their schedules around holidays.
Check your property's guest information or the current city collection schedule if you're unsure.
Help Keep Anna Maria Island Beautiful
A little care goes a long way toward keeping Anna Maria Island beautiful for residents, visitors and local wildlife.
Keep household trash securely contained, use recycling bins properly and follow the instructions provided at your vacation rental. Before checking out, make sure household trash has been placed in the appropriate container or collection area according to your departure instructions.
Then get back to the important stuff — enjoying your vacation!
