Anna Maria Island SandBlast 2010

Teams gathered on the beach Saturday November 20TH to compete in the Annual Sand Sculpting contest at The Beachhouse Restaurant in Bradenton Beach.  The teams began working at 9a.m. and some of the teams were at the beach by 7:30 a.m ready to go.  At 1:00 p.m. most of the teams were done and they were ready to start the judging.

There were 25 sand sculptures this year, and 2 first place winners.  The  AMI Privateers won the Nautical category with their giant octopus, it looked amazing they really did a good job.  Bayshore High School won Free Form category with their Alien Crash, very cool idea and completely original.  The large recycle themed sculpture in front of the Beachhouse Restaurant was done by Team Sandtastic the week before the contest, (I like the dog the best!).

People showed up all day long to support their favorite team or just to walk through the maze of sand sculptures on Bradenton Beach.  If you missed this year’s SandBlast don’t worry there will be another one next November, and you will just have to wait.
