Anna Maria Island – Judith Shepherd-Rains will be featured artist the month for February 2014 at the newly renovated Artists’ Guild Gallery located at 5414 Marina Drive in Holmes Beach. Also at the Gallery, there will be a reception for her Friday, February 14th, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.
Judith was born in New England into a creative and artistic family and spent the early 60’s to mid 90’s living in the Caribbean painting the lush colors and vibrancy of the tropics in watercolors and acrylics. After moving to Bradenton, she exhibited her glass paintings in juried shows from Florida to New England. Her work is eclectic, from animals of the Safari, cats and lush tropics. When asked about her signature on her paintings, Shepherd-rains explains it is “Tradition”. “My Dad was a painter, as well as an intricate wood carver and always signed his works with his initials, JVRS. My Mother signed her works as TPS. It is natural that I sign my works JPSR. My son Douglas, also an artist, signs his works with a single initial “D”.
