On April 1st, wildlife will take over the Artists’ Guild Gallery window at 5414 Marina Drive in Holmes Beach.
There will be a reception for photographer Margaret Kelley, Friday, April 11, 5:30 to 7:30 PM . This event is free and open to the public.
Margaret Kelley has been taking pictures for more than 40 years, starting with a “handed down” Miranda and a “handed down” Kodak enlarger. Some of her favorite pictures were taken with a throw away plastic camera, called the Diana, the chief characteristic of which was “what you got was always a surprise of lighting and focus.” She studied photography and dark room techniques at Northern Virginia Community College, and subsequently graduated to newer cameras. She has traveled widely in Europe, Egypt, India and Africa. Her pictures have been gathered into books and albums. Since coming to live in Florida, she has focused on the abundant water bird life of the area capturing images in various lighting situations that emphasize the subtle characteristics of her subjects that more casual viewings miss. She strives to work with natural light, patiently staking out her subjects in their usually watery surroundings emphasizing the play of the light on form and feathers and their reflections on the water. She recently had a show of her water birds in Gibson Island, Maryland.
