Everyone needs to eat and when you are in Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island you must stop at Hurricane Hanks Pub & Grub for lunch or dinner. Hurricane Hanks is in the S & S Plaza located at the intersection of Gulf Drive and Marina Drive in Holmes Beach. This island style pub has it all, salads, sandwiches, steaks, seafood, and a full liquor bar, with bartenders who know their drink recipes.
Sorry, the public pier has been closed after Hurricane Irma but the City of Anna Maria is hard at work arranging for repairs so that it can be re-opened!
The Historical City Pier on Anna Maria Island is a very unique place, and has been a Anna Maria Island tourist attraction in Manatee County for a long time. “The City Pier is a special place that you can take 750 steps into the bay, go 30 years back in time, and really get that Old Florida Look and feel” said David Sork at the City Pier Restaurant on Monday. The City Pier has spectacular views of the Bay, great fishing, tasty food, and cold beer at the Restaurant.
Anna Maria Island Free Trolley is a great way to get to your favorite places on Anna Maria Island. The best part is that it’s FREE!!! The Trolleys is air conditioned and service runs from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. about every 20 minutes from the north end of the Island at Anna Maria City Pier south to Coquina Beach, in Bradenton Beach.
Free Trolley offers stops along the entire island
Trolley Stops are two to four blocks apart along the route and there are three main stops: Anna Maria City Pier, Manatee Public Beach, and Coquina Beach where the trolley will wait approximately three minutes before continuing the route. All Anna Maria Island Trolley stops have a green sign with a trolley on it and most of them have a covered seating area while you wait.
In Holmes Beach the Trolley runs north on Marina Drive and South on Gulf Drive. So depending on where you are in Holmes Beach, you may have to walk a block or two. The Anna Maria Island Trolley is run by MCAT (Manatee County Area Transit) who partners with SCAT (Sarasota County Area Transit). So this is great for all of us because for just $.75 you can catch the Longboat Key Trolley from Coquina Beach on Anna Maria Island to downtown Sarasota, with stops on Longboat Key and St. Armand’s Circle. Daily service runs from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. every 30 minutes.
It doesn’t matter if you live here or are here enjoying your Anna Maria Island Vacation; remember the Trolley runs on “Island Time” so no need to be in a hurry. Enjoy the exquisite weather and beautiful views on your free Anna Maria Island Trolley adventure. I know I do!
Our beloved Rotten Ralph’s is currently closed, but Anna Maria Oyster Bar will be taking it’s place.
Not to worry! Visit our restaurant summary page with lots of other choices. Currently Anna Maria Island Oyster Bar is slotted to go in the Bradenton Beach pier spot.
It doesn’t matter if you live in Florida or if you came to Anna Maria Island for vacation, Rotten Ralph’s Restaurant on Historic Bradenton Beach Pier is a great place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can come by land or sea to eat, drink, go fishing, and enjoy beautiful views of Sarasota Bay. Rotten Ralph’s is a full service restaurant and offers inside and outside dinning, a floating boat dock, a bait shop, and fishing is free on the pier.
Grab your beach chairs, pack up a cooler and spend the day at the beach. It is eighty six degrees outside, the average water temperature this time of year is eighty five, and the sugar sand beaches on Anna Maria Island have never been more beautiful. Pristine beaches as far as my eyes can see, and everyone is enjoying their favorite outdoor activities.
Bradenton Beach – Let’s take a stroll down the boardwalk through the mangroves along Sarasota Bay. The bay walk at Leffis key will not cost you a dime and has plenty of parking. Leffis key is located on the south end of Anna Maria Island on the bay side directly across from Coquina Beach.
Directions to Leffis Key
Coming from Long Boat Key head north to Anna Maria Island. Once you have gone over the bridge onto Anna Maria Island you will see Coquina Beach on your left hand side and the boat ramps and a picnic area to the right. Just after the boat ramp on your right hand side you will see the parking area for Leffis Key. 2351 Gulf of Mexico Drive
The easiest way from Bradenton is to take Cortez Road west to the beach. After you have gone over the bridge onto Anna Maria Island take a left and head south towards Coquina Beach. Leffis Key is right before the boat ramp on your left hand side.
As you enter Leffis Key get your cameras ready because the Anna Maria island wildlife will be waiting for you. When we were there on Monday we saw a hawk, a blue heron, rabbits, crabs, and lots of small fish swimming in the lagoons. There are a lot of different species of young fish that take refuge in the lagoons here to avoid larger fish and predators in the bay. You may see young mullet, red drum, snook, and sheepshead in these shallow lagoons.
