Manatee Public Beach is located in Holmes Beach where Manatee Avenue runs right into the Gulf of Mexico. Manatee Public Beach has free parking, picnic tables, public restrooms, a playground on the beach for children, a fishing pier, a café right on the beach with food and drinks, and a lifeguard on duty.
Looking for something to do this weekend? Then head over to the Anna Maria Island Springfest! This year features two days of art, activities, food, drinks and live music! Regional artists will show off their art and you can purchase prize drawing tickets for a chance to take home your own piece of the festival! Proceeds will benefit the Anna Maria Island Art League which offers scholarships and other art education programs to local students.
The event will run from 10am – 5pm on Saturday March 9, and Sunday March 10, 2013. Come out and eat your share of kettle corn while jamming to the sweet sounds of Koko Ray, The Bontrager Sisters and many more!

‘Tis the season for the Anna Maria Island Concert Chorus and Orchestra (AMICCO) to be holding their annual holiday concert. The CrossPointe Fellowship will be hosting the holiday concert on Sunday, December 16th at 2pm. AMICCO’s performance will include a holiday song sing-along and musical arrangements from Handel and Tchaikovsky. Vocalists that will be featured include Joy Leitner, Megan Schmidt, Marth diPalma, David Kessler, and Jinho Park.

Sushi Boat
Ocean Star is located in Holmes Beach in the plaza to the South of Publix supermarket. It has been well known for island residents as well as visitors who have come to Anna Maria Island year after year. Ocean Star is located just off East Bay Drive and is well known for it’s fantastic sushi – raw fish.
Ocean Star provides fantastic sushi and more traditional Japanese dining. The small restaurant has seating for about 50 and in high season there can be a significant wait. The dining area has wooden booths, tables, and traditional sunken tables with cushions to sit at. Of course no restaurant should serve Sushi if they don’t have a bar area where you can sit and watch the chefs prepare sushi. The seating at the bar area is about 15.
So far it has been a wonderful summer here on Anna Maria Island and for students summer vacation is slowly coming to an end. School starts Monday August 20th and that means that traffic will increase drastically. Expect delays in Holmes Beach on Anna Maria Island! It will definitely take everyone a little longer to get where they are going especially in the mornings between 8:00am – 8:30am and afternoons between 2:45pm – 3:15pm when the students are released. West Manatee Fire Rescue will be in front of Anna Maria Elementary for the first week of School to help remind the public to slow down in the school zone and keep the kids safe and secure.
If your family is gearing up for back to school shopping make sure to take full advantage of the sales tax holiday this year. The sales tax holiday will run this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday offering tax fee items such as clothing, footwear, certain accessories, and school supplies across the state of Florida.
