Carol’s Top 10 Places to Shop ’til you Drop in the Anna Maria Island Area!

Carol Bernard1. Sterling Anvil - Update 2012 – The Sterling Anvil‘s brick & mortar store is closed.  We can still enjoy their wares at local craft fairs.
All local handmade sterling silver and gold jewelry. Charms, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings – everything! Very reasonable prices and since everything is handmade each piece is one of a kind.

Since The Sterling Anvil has closed, we are cheating on the Top Ten and adding some more suggestions to our list :)

Check out Bridge Street Jewelers on Bridge Street in Bradenton Beach…lots of gorgeous jewelry, including the AMI bracelet.   Creations by L in Holmes Beach has ready made creations, or design your own.  There is beautiful beaded jewelry, including the barefoot sandal and the Island charm bracelet.  On the north end, in Anna Maria, stop in at Shiny Fish, they have crafty fun stuff for grown ups and kids, beautiful fashion pieces-shirts, covers, bags, shoes, and great accessories like rings and bracelets -even Swarovski crystal earbuds!
2. Sweet Peas
Locally made candy, gifts and wine from Florida winery’s using unique ingredients such as mango and oranges. Ask for a sample and they will be happy to share with you where it was made and any awards the wine has won. I recently brought a bottle of Mango Pineapple wine and it was a hit (tip – best served COLD).

3. 12th and East
Super adorable home and lifestyle items. I recently purchased an eclectic set of cocktail glasses none exactly “matched” yet they all went together. Every time I go in here I come out with a wish list a mile long!

4. Relish
You can’t stop into Relish just once – their product is so unique and changes so often that I find myself stopping by almost every week to see what is new. The owners find recycled items and repurpose in fun ways – my favorite is a vintage Scrabble piece necklace charm with my initial. Buttons, ribbons, photo frames, etc. Each trip is like a treasure hunt.

Irene's Resort Wear

Irene’s Resort Wear

5. Irene’s Resort Wear
This shop has a long standing reputation of offering ladies resort wear – both casual and evening. However, I go in there mostly to browse their Vera Bradley section and Brighton display. Irene’s is the only retailer offering Brighton products on Anna Maria Island. Jewelry, sunglasses, shoes and handbags – they have a little of everything. Their Vera Bradley section is much larger with bags, towels, paper goods, hats and so much more. Their sales loft has great deals on clothing – a friend recently purchased a beautiful black cocktail dress for 60% off!

6. Sand Dollar
After strolling through Irene’s, right next door is the Sand Dollar. As soon as you walk in the candles, bath soaps and salts take over your senses. The store is packed with goodies, so make sure to hold your purse close or the hands of small children so as to not knock anything over. They always have island inspired dinner, glass and stem wear as well as fun serving platters, utensils, napkin rings, etc. The shop keepers use every bit of space for display, so make sure to look all over the walls, in baskets on the floor and ceiling for hanging decorations. There is a small selection of clothing and shoes in the back and make sure to check out their accessories – headbands, charms and beautiful scarves. I’ve never walked out empty handed.

7. Holy Cow Ice Cream and Gifts
The owners of the Sand Dollar opened this combo ice cream/candy/gift shop a few years ago. My favorite is the mint chocolate chip in a waffle cone. Beware – the double scoop is extremely generous (all the better to walk around the store while eating it). They have a few game areas set up to enjoy while having your treat – checkers, chalk boards, crayons, etc. There are so many fun items in this store it’s hard to see them all on just one visit! They have off-the-wall home décor, funny cocktail napkins and cards, old fashioned games and more. Worth a few visits. Note: they offer a few sugar free flavors as well as the classics.

8. Crowder’s Gifts and Gadgets
Off the island on Manatee Ave about 2 miles is one of my all time favorite places – Crowder’s Gifts and Gadgets. The shop is attached to an ACE Hardware store, so send your guy over there to look at hammers while you browse. Seasonal items are always up front with extremely unique items. Home décor, paper goods, cards, Yankee Candles, Willow Tree, Vera Bradley, Brighton Jewelry, collegtic collectables, switch flops and more. The front counter offers homemade fudge and they are happy to offer a sample. I hate to rush in and out of a place like this and prefer to go when I can stroll all the isles to see what is new. Worth the trip off the island.

9. Olive Oil Outpost
What a treat for the senses! The Olive Oil Outpost is a new shop that offers a variety of oils, vinegars, spices, coffee and salts. Very unusual and many hard to find gift items or for your own cooking can be found here. There is a small variety of canisters, bottles and serving dishes as well. Bring some fancy spices or salt as a hostess gift to your next dinner party and you’ll definitely be invited again!

10. Bella By the Sea
Named after the owner’s English bulldog, Bella, this new store offers a bit of everything. Home décor, clothing, accessories, seasonal décor and lots and lots of handbags. I love the clutches with “34216” (Anna Maria’s zip code) beaded on the front – very cute and representing of the island. The shop owner brings in new items monthly so if you see something you like grab it because once it’s gone you may not see it again, which just adds to the charm and uniqueness.

Does anyone remember the name of the shop that specialized in handmade beaded jewelry not far away from the shop that sells all the shells and other seaside themed gifts?

I bought a bracelet there several years ago and it broke today so I wanted to have it repaired or replaced if at all possible.

Any leads you can give me would be greatly appreciated. and thank you in advance for your prompt response.

After doing a little digging, I believe you’re looking for “Creations by Lois”. It’s located at 5500 Marina Drive, with a big sign that has an “L” on it. Their phone number is 941-779-0779. I hope we were able to help!
