We have four holiday parades a year on Anna Maria Island, each with its own distinct flavor. St. Patrick’s Day is a little more whimsical with an appearance by local celebrity Judy the Elephant and the Fourth of July is just to warm you up for fireworks and a dip in the clear, blue water of the Gulf of Mexico.
This holiday season, we had a front row seat for the Christmas Parade as it passed right by both our Pine Ave and Marina Drive offices. Starting at Bayfront Park and heading all the way down through Bradenton Beach and Holmes Beach to Coquina Beach Gulfside Park, this is one of our favorite yuletide events.
Larry proudly donned the ole Santa hat and drove the Island Real Estate box truck for one of the area’s favorite yuletide traditions. Stocking stuffers such as candy canes, beads, and rubber super balls were tossed from the floats; the air was filled with caroling and holiday cheer.
Local business weren’t the only ones showing their Christmas spirit. A few residents donned their vehicles with all the festive trimmings – tinsel, ornaments, plastic reindeer that were once reserved for the front lawn. Living in a tropical paradise means you have to get a little creative with decorations. But the light of Christmas morning is just as beautiful glistening on sand as it is snow. If you’ve never spent a winter in Florida, this is just one of a thousand reasons to spend a holiday on Anna Maria Island.
